Rising Sun Pictures Recruiting Senior Creature Technical Director
Rising Sun Pictures is currently seeking an experienced Senior Creature TD to join our growing team.
Employment period: This is a long term contract, with a mid-year start.
Location: Adelaide, Australia. This position will be open to Australian and international applicants. Visa and relocation assistance provided where applicable.
Position Overview
The successful applicant will be responsible for creating and maintaining animation rigs and simulation rigs for characters, creatures, props and vehicles. You will also be required to implement proprietary tools to aid in the creation of rigs and simulations. As a Senior Creature TD you will work closely with Modellers and Animators to develop and refine rigs and sims that meet specific creative and technical VFX requirements.
Your previously held positions are likely to have included Senior Creature TD, Senior Rigger, Senior Cloth TD etc. You are highly experienced in rigging and have experience with nCloth, fluent with Python, have extensive muscle experience, and will have previously designed, tested and deployed animation rigging toolsets for high end visual effects.
Responsibilities
Prototype, implement and refine fully scripted animation rigs according to production needs.
Troubleshoot and fix rig issues, collect artistic feedback and fine-tune rig behaviour.
Script utilities/tools/plug-ins in various software packages.
Maintain integrity and structure of the pipeline & workflow.
Meet delivery deadlines within production constraints.
Write & maintain departmental wiki pages, technical documentation.
Provide regular updates & present your work in progress to department and show supervisors, informing them of any issues that may affect progress, offering solutions as required.
All senior artists at RSP are expected to lead by example through mentoring and developing less experienced team members. Knowledge sharing is expected in this senior role.

Required skills and experience
Minimum 5+ years of relevant rig & character experience across high-end feature film.
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent industry focused experience.
Experience with Cloth a must.
Experience with cloth and hair simulation [Yeti, Maya Hair, Cloth, Particle etc.].
Expertise with Maya and/or other high-end animation software.
Experience with Python, Mel and/or other scripting languages.
Experience in corrective sculpting. Knowledge of anatomy and enveloping.
Proficiency with Linux required.
Experience with performance capture is a plus [rig hookups, offset rigs, re-targeting etc.].
Experience with C++ is a plus.
Strong initiative and problem solving skills.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Visual Effects, Fine Art, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or related tertiary qualification may be required for international applicants.
