We've all heard the same old acting tips for animators numerous times: who is your character, what is the subtext, are you being specific? And while these are all important questions to keep in mind, it can be hard to know how to execute these ideas into your performance. One key way is through the mouth! The first thing you look at when you talk to a person or watch a performance is the eyes, while the second thing is the mouth. In this clip, AnimSchool instructor Ricky Renna explains the importance of mouth acting and how animators can create a specific, character-driven performance from the mouth. Ricky analyzes both animation and live-action examples of good mouth acting and breaks down how that specific performance was created.
